武汉船舶职业技术学院创建于1950年，是中国最早建立的军工院校之一。目前是中国国家示范性高等职业院校、中国首批现代学徒制试点院校和全国毕业生就业典型经验高校。学校坐落在中国美丽江城——湖北武汉，现有在校生15000余人。

学校设有机械工程学院、交通运输工程学院、船舶与海洋工程学院、电气与电子工程学院、经济与管理学院、建筑工程与设计学院、计算机信息技术学院、商务贸易等12个二级学院，开设有各类专业49个，其中国家级精品专业1个、国家示范性重点建设专业及专业群5个、教育部教学改革试点专业2个、国防军工专业6个。学校建有国家级专业教学资源库1个。

学校多个优势专业与武汉地铁集团等企业开展合作，开办了地铁订单班；多个特色专业与世界500强企业合作，开办了英才班；同时开办了中德班AHK项目，中泰留学生交流班，中美留学生交流班。学校与中国船舶重工集团等多家国内外知名企业建立了紧密战略合作关系。

学校拥有一支实力雄厚的师资团队。其中有中国“万人计划”名师1人（湖北同类院校唯一），全国优秀教师1名，有国家级教学团队3个，省级教学团队5个，楚天技能名师17人。

学院建有轮机中心、现代制造中心、电气自动化中心、计算机信息网络中心、商务中心等19个校内综合训练基地。拥有船舶建造、船舶机舱仿真、数控加工、工业机器人技术、PLC及自动控制、计算机网络技术、酒店服务等106个设施先进、功能完善的实训室。其中，国家财政部重点建设的实训室6个。学院还拥有中型企业规模的生产性实习工厂，是国家船舶柴油机配套产品定点生产单位。

学院以服务“造船强国”与“造船强省”为战略，大力发展现代制造业、现代服务业、战略性新兴产业等区域产业，进一步培育与发展特色专业群，发挥国家示范与行业骨干院校的引领带动作用，“把学院建成国家级校企合作示范基地、高技能人才培养基地、船舶行业继续教育基地、区域性技能培训与新技术推广基地，成为办学特色鲜明、办学水平较高，国内一流、国际知名的高等职业院校”作为新时期的发展目标。

A glance at WIST: Wuhan Institute of Shipbuilding Technology was founded in 1950 as one of the first military industry colleges in the People’s Republic of China. The campus is located in Wuhan, Hubei, a scenic riverside city, and has a current enrollment of 15,000. It ranks among the National Demonstrative Higher Vocational Colleges, and the National Exemplary College with Excellent Employment of Graduates, and as one of the first National Pilot Colleges of Modern Apprenticeship.

WIST is made up of 12 schools, including School of Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Electronics and Electric Engineering, Economics and Management. Within these 12 schools, there are 49 specialties, among which one is awarded the National Quality Specialty, 5 as the Key Specialties of National Demonstrative Constructions, 2 as the National Pilot Specialties for Teaching Reform, 6 as the Specialties of National Defense and Military Industry. In addition, WIST has a National-level vocational education teaching resource library.

WIST has collaboration with the metro groups of Wuhan, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, through the establishment of order-oriented education. It has established NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) classes with the Chinese People’s Armed Police Force and PLA Navy. It has built close strategic cooperation relations with many well-known enterprises both in China and abroad.

WIST has a highly competent faculty that is well-recognized nationally. Prof. Zhou Lan from the School of Mechanical Engineering has received the award of “Ten Thousand Plan (National High Level Talents Special Support Plan)”. Other awards received by WIST faculty in the recent years include 1 National Excellent Teacher Award, 3 National Teaching Team Awards, 5 Provincial Teaching Team Awards and 17 Chutian Distinguished Teachers Awards.

WIST has 19 training centers including Turbine Center, Modern Manufacturing Center, Electrical Automation Center, Computer Information Network Center and Business Center. In addition, WIST has 106 advanced labs such as shipbuilding, naval engine simulation, numerical control processing, industrial robotics, PLC and automatic control, computer network technology, and hotel services. The college also has a medium-sized manufacture training factory, which is the designated production site for the national marine diesel engine accessories.

WIST plays a pivotal role in cultivating professionals for the next generation, in alignment with the "National Naval Expansion" strategy. Out mission is to build a first-class and internationally renowned higher vocational college that serves as a demonstration for school-enterprise cooperation, a training base for highly-skilled personnel, a continuing education institute for the shipbuilding industry, and a regional center for training and new technology promotion.
